With the goings on these days one would not be out of line to consider being armed when out and about. An old white guy out walking alone could be looked upon as easy pickings to a small group of wrong thinking individuals . Just being in the wrong place at the wrong time could make you a target . Be aware of your surroundings .Don't go to stupid places with stupid people and do stupid things.

Had a good afternoon yesterday . Jiro picked me up and we took a bunch of leftover material up to the farm . We decided to hit the shooting range being that it was a nice afternoon. We tried out the Springfield EMP 9MM and I also had the Hi Power along. The EMP Ronan model is a good looking piece of hardware ,and it feels good in hand. It has a 3 inch barrel, 9 round magazines , fiber optic front sight and two dot in the rear . The Ronan had no malfunctions of any kind. It has a decent trigger . I did notice I tended to hit to the left side of the target ,and the grouping opened up some as we got farther from the target. But a pistol with a three inch barrel is harder to shoot accurately than a longer one. My friend let me try out his Canik ,it is a Glock clone and I did not shoot that one very well, the trigger pull was just too funky. Pull ,pull some more, ok pull a little more ,...finally it goes bang ! The trigger safety is not my cuppa tea . Then after all of that I pulled out the Hi Power and proceeded to pummel the targets, Damn that pistol shoots nice !

It was an interesting day at work yesterday , we had a 7.5 Horsepower motor fail that drives part of the ventilation system in the black oxide department . When I got to work the day shift crew had gotten a pretty good start on removing the old motor. It is about 20 feet in the air outside on the north end of the building, and it was cold and windy ,so that made the job even more fun. We hauled the wreckage into the shop area and changed the sheave and bushing over to the replacement motor. (Not a new motor , a used spare with unknown hours on it .) I showed the boys how to remove a Taperlock Bushing "Just smack it with a hammer right?" NOPE ! it was a teaching moment ! Teaching the new dogs old tricks ! That's what us old dogs do !

Had to run to town and visit the grocery store do the weekly resupply . Some items are always going to be on the list. Milk, butter bread, fresh fruit and veggies & meat those things are usually needed at least every trip , then we have stuff I have to pick up on a less frequent timeline. a big bag of Dog food can last 2 almost 3 weeks bird seed and cat food and litter are the same. Paper supplies are also on the infrequent list ,and I get really annoyed every time I have to purchase toilet paper, because it says right on the package that the manufacturers think I am an idiot. Well , not in so many words, but on each and every package it says something like Six rolls EQUALS twelve . Huh ? Nope . Six rolls = 6 rolls SIX not twelve not eighteen SIX . Six is the number of the rolls in the package. How good do you think it would work if when I went to pay I told the checkout person "My three dollars is equal to six ?" they would laugh me out of the place.

The spare magazines for the Springfield 9MM arrived today. They got here fairly quickly considering that Monday was Presidents day . I have read a bunch of reviews and am looking foreword to trying out the new pistol . As of this morning it looks like spring , most of the snow has melted , and the temperature is warm , but that is going to change . Friday its going to get ugly again, rainy colder and snow , but the days are getting longer and we are almost into March , it'll soon be time to put away the snow shovel and fire up the rototiller!

Picked up a new carry pistol. 1911 3 inch barrel 9MM Ronan by Springfield Armory It feels good in hand , substantial looks good. My only complaint is it came with one magazine. I ordered three spares from S.A. they'll probably be here Tuesday . My original plan was a inexpensive 9MM for a truck gun . Well that didn't work ! This little fellow was not cheap, but I have read numerous good reviews of them.

Friday the 13th, and night before valentines day. Sounds like a horror movie double feature ! We are having a bit of a warmup , in the 50s again tomorrow. I might have to get some charcoal and burn something on the grill . We can still get brutal cold snaps yet so I'm not declaring winter to be over, but if it was , it would be alright with me.
I have gotten a little work done in the basement shop, Got the shelf units redone , and mounted packout wall plates to the ends so I can hang up tools and equipment. They have a nifty holder that will keep the string trimmers up out of the way parked on the end of the shelf unit in otherwise wasted space . Then being that I hade all of this brand new empty shelf space I wrapped up all of the extension cords and battery chargers and got them organized ,and put away nicely instead of a big tangled up knot of junk. I went through the stuff on the tool bench and got that somewhat cleaned up, but there is still a bit more to go on that one. I still have to tackle the gun/knife bench. that is a colossal mess buried in miscellaneous . The pegboard is slowly going away and packout taking over that stuff works great but it's costly. It sure makes for a good looking finished product though

Went for a little road trip with my good friend Jiro yesterday . We stopped a Harbor Freight and got a couple small items , they have a Mini Toolbox that is well worth the twenty dollar bill that they are asking. I've got a couple , and they make good presents as well. We then visited a couple gun stores and Mid West Shooters Supply . I am proud to say all I bought was a spare magazine for the G.S.G. .22 pistol , why they would let a semiautomatic pistol out the door with only one magazine just makes me wonder. Jiro made it through with only a couple boxes of .410 shells so his billfold didn't take too bad of a hit either. Grabbed a burrito for lunch and made our way back . It was an alright way to spend a winter afternoon.

Sent off the first half of the property taxes last week . Kinda feels like money for nothing . It is discouraging working every day to send a bunch of cash off for someone else to spend. In light of all of the fraud and corruption it is even more odious of a burden to forfeit my hard earned money to support the parasitic class. Spring can't get here soon enough .

At the job, the second shift will have no supervisors. Both of them have moved on and tonight will be the last night with a supervisor at the two factories here until we get a replacement . That leaves me as the adult in the room . Great ! That is the kind of thing I've been trying to avoid . I am happy mechanicing , I just do my own thing and people leave me be. I will help out the lead men as best I can , common sense rules apply . It wouldn't be the first time I've had to step up and wing it .

We have loads of drama at work! My supervisor is moving on to greener pastures. We have one member of the crew that really wants to be supervisor ,but , he has bad attendance and was written up for that , also he has gotten in trouble for other stupid infractions like extra long breaks and just being a doofus. We have a new mechanic on day shift , and out robotics tec put a bug in wannabee supervisor's ear that new guy was going to apply for the supervisor position. Mr. wannabee blew his stack, went into the H.R. office and raised hell about it ! New guy wants no part of the supervisor gig , so Mr. wannabe came out of there looking really foolish. I'm not really sure what the moral of the story is , maybe , the old saying be quiet ,let people assume you are a fool rather than speak up and remove all doubt ? I think I will stay the course ,hang out on second shift and try not to get noticed too much. If I can keep people from blowing the place up and get a few PMs done in the meanwhile the managers are content . I am getting paid well to babysit .LOL
